Context of Psalms 30:5
3O Lord, you brought me up from the grave. You called me back to life from among those who had gone into the pit. 4Make music to praise the Lord, you faithful people who belong to him. Remember his holiness by giving thanks. His anger lasts only a moment. His favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may last for the night, but there is a song of joy in the morning. 6When all was well with me, I said, “I will never be shaken.” 7O Lord, by your favor you have made my mountain stand firm. When you hid your face, I was terrified.

Commentaries on Psalms 30:5
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5For his anger endureth but a moment - There is an elegant abruptness in these words in the Hebrew text. This is the literal translation: "For a moment in his anger. Lives in his favor. In the evening weeping may lodge: but in the morning exultation." So good is God, that he cannot delight in either the depression or ruin of his creatures. When he afflicts, it is for our advantage, that we may be partakers of his holiness, and be not condemned with the…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5For his anger endureth but a moment - Margin: There is but “a moment in his anger.” So the Hebrew. That is, his anger endures but a short time, or brief period. The reference here is to the troubles and sorrows through which the psalmist had passed, as compared with his subsequent happiness. Though at the time they might have seemed to be long, yet, as compared with the many mercies of life, with the joy which had succeeded them, and with the hopes now…Read the comment
