Context of Psalms 30:5
3Lord, you pulled me up out of the deep hole of death. You saved me from among those who are going into the grave. 4Sing to the Lord, you people who trust him. Praise his holy name. His anger continues only for a moment, but he is kind to us for our whole life. You may be sad all through the night, but in the morning, you will be happy again. 6When I was feeling safe and strong, I thought, ‘Nothing can ever destroy me.’ 7But Lord, it was you who made my kingdom strong, because you are so kind. But then you turned away from me, and I became very afraid.

Commentaries on Psalms 30:5
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5For his anger endureth but a moment - There is an elegant abruptness in these words in the Hebrew text. This is the literal translation: "For a moment in his anger. Lives in his favor. In the evening weeping may lodge: but in the morning exultation." So good is God, that he cannot delight in either the depression or ruin of his creatures. When he afflicts, it is for our advantage, that we may be partakers of his holiness, and be not condemned with the…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5For his anger endureth but a moment - Margin: There is but “a moment in his anger.” So the Hebrew. That is, his anger endures but a short time, or brief period. The reference here is to the troubles and sorrows through which the psalmist had passed, as compared with his subsequent happiness. Though at the time they might have seemed to be long, yet, as compared with the many mercies of life, with the joy which had succeeded them, and with the hopes now…Read the comment
