Context of Matthew 8:15
13Jesus told the officer, “Go! What you believed will be done for you.” And at that moment the servant was healed. 14When Jesus went to Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law in bed with a fever. Jesus touched her hand, and the fever went away. So she got up and prepared a meal for him. 16In the evening the people brought him many who were possessed by demons. He forced the ⌞evil⌟ spirits out of people with a command and cured everyone who was sick. 17So what the prophet Isaiah had said came true: “He took away our weaknesses and removed our diseases.”

Commentaries on Matthew 8:15
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 15He touched her hand - Can any thing on this side the unlimited power of God effect such a cure with only a touch? If the Scriptures had not spoken of the divinity of Christ, these proofs of his power must have demonstrated it to the common sense of every man whose creed had not previously blinded him. Ministered unto them - , them, is the reading of most of the printed editions, but , to him, has the utmost evidence in its support from MSS., versions, and…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-17Verses 14-17 Peter had a wife, yet was an apostle of Christ, who showed that he approved of the married state, by being thus kind to Peter's wife's relations. The church of Rome, which forbids ministers to marry, goes contrary to that apostle upon whom they rest so much. He had his wife's mother with him in his family, which is an example to be kind to our relations. In spiritual healing, the Scripture speaks the word, the Spirit gives the touch, touches…Read the comment

But the religious leaders reacted with anger and opposition. Jesus called his followers to respond…Read the comment
