Context of Matthew 8:15
13Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go; just as you believed, it will be done for you.” And the servant was healed at that hour. 14Now when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying down, sick with a fever. He touched her hand, and the fever left her. Then she got up and began to serve them. 16When it was evening, many demon-possessed people were brought to him. He drove out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick. 17In this way what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet was fulfilled: “He took our weaknesses and carried our diseases.”

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 15He touched her hand - Can any thing on this side the unlimited power of God effect such a cure with only a touch? If the Scriptures had not spoken of the divinity of Christ, these proofs of his power must have demonstrated it to the common sense of every man whose creed had not previously blinded him. Ministered unto them - , them, is the reading of most of the printed editions, but , to him, has the utmost evidence in its support from MSS., versions, and…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-17Verses 14-17 Peter had a wife, yet was an apostle of Christ, who showed that he approved of the married state, by being thus kind to Peter's wife's relations. The church of Rome, which forbids ministers to marry, goes contrary to that apostle upon whom they rest so much. He had his wife's mother with him in his family, which is an example to be kind to our relations. In spiritual healing, the Scripture speaks the word, the Spirit gives the touch, touches…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-34Here, the kingdom of God appears with supernatural power (see Matthew 4:23–25; 11:2–6). It reaches people who were previously excluded from God's blessings. This included: non-Jewish people, lepers, blind people, sick women, people possessed by demons, tax collectors, those with long-term bleeding, and the dead. Jesus showed compassion to people in need. But the religious leaders reacted with anger and opposition. Jesus called his followers to respond…Read the comment
