Context of Matthew 19:27
25He amazed his disciples more than ever when they heard this. “Then who can be saved?” they asked. 26Jesus looked at them and said, “It is impossible for people ⌞to save themselves⌟, but everything is possible for God.” Then Peter replied to him, “Look, we’ve given up everything to follow you. What will we get out of it?” 28Jesus said to them, “I can guarantee this truth: When the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne in the world to come, you, my followers, will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29And everyone who gave up homes, brothers or sisters, father, mother, children, or fields because of my name will receive a hundred times more and will inherit eternal life.

Commentaries on Matthew 19:27
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 27We have forsaken all - "A poor all," says one, "a parcel of rotten nets." No matter - they were their All, whether rotten or sound; besides, they were the all they got their bread by; and such an all as was quite sufficient for that purpose: and let it be observed, that that man forsakes much who reserves nothing to himself, and renounces all expectations from this world, taking God alone for his portion. See Matthew 4:20. To forsake all, without…Read the comment

He was a ruler (Luke); probably a ruler in a synagogue, or of the great council of the nation; a place to which he was chosen on account of his unblemished character and promising talents. He came running (Mark); evincing great earnestness and anxiety, He fell upon his knees (Mark); not to worship him, but to pay the customary respectful…Read the comment

It should be satisfaction to those who are in a low condition, that they are not exposed to the temptations of a high and prosperous condition.
