Context of Matthew 12:16
14The Pharisees left and plotted to kill Jesus. 15He knew about this, so he left that place. Many people followed him, and he cured all of them. He also ordered them not to tell people who he was. 17So what the prophet Isaiah had said came true: 18“Here is my servant whom I have chosen, whom I love, and in whom I delight. I will put my Spirit on him, and he will announce justice to the nations.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 16Charged them that they should not make him known - See Matthew 8:4. Jesus Christ, as God, could have easily concealed himself, but he chooses to do it as man, and to use no other than human means, as these were quite sufficient for the purpose, to teach us not to neglect them in our necessity. Indeed, he always used his power less on his own account, than on that of men.Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-21Verses 14-21 The Pharisees took counsel to find some accusation, that Jesus might be condemned to death. Aware of their design, as his time was not come, he retired from that place. Let us with cheerful confidence commit our souls to so kind and faithful a Friend. Far from breaking, he will…Read the comment
