Context of Mark 7:11
9He added, “You have no trouble rejecting the commandments of God in order to keep your own traditions! 10For example, Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’ and ‘Whoever curses father or mother must be put to death.’ But you say, ‘If a person tells his father or mother that whatever he might have used to help them is corban (that is, an offering to God), 12he no longer has to do anything for his father or mother.’ 13Because of your traditions you have destroyed the authority of God’s word. And you do many other things like that.”

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 11-12But you say: The contrast with God’s law is very strong. Their tradition went against God’s command to honor parents by caring for their needs. ‘Whatever you would have received from me is Corban’ (that is, a gift devoted to God): This tradition taught that people could avoid helping their parents. They could promise to give their resources to God instead. In this way, they ignored and dishonored their parents, even when their parents were in need.Read the comment
