Context of Daniel 7:16
14He was given power, honor, and a kingdom. People from every province, nation, and language were to serve him. His power is an eternal power that will not be taken away. His kingdom will never be destroyed. 15I, Daniel, was deeply troubled, and my visions frightened me. I went to someone who was standing there and asked him to tell me the truth about all this. So he told me what all this meant. 17He said, “These four large animals are four kingdoms that will rise to power on the earth. 18But the holy people of the Most High will take possession of the kingdom and keep it forever and ever.”

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 16I came near unto one of them that stood by - That is, to one of the angels who appeared to stand near the throne. Daniel 7:10. Compare Daniel 8:13; Zechariah 4:4-5; Revelation 7:13. It was natural for Daniel to suppose that the angels who were seen encircling the throne would be able to give him information on the subject, and the answers which Daniel received show that he was not mistaken in his expectation. God has often employed angels to communicate…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 15-28Verses 15-28 It is desirable to obtain the right and full sense of what we see and hear from God; and those that would know, must ask by faithful and fervent prayer. The outward political history had been shown in its general features to the world ruler, whose position fitted him for receiving such a revelation.
