Context of Daniel 7:14
12The power of the rest of the animals was taken away, but they were allowed to live for a period of time. 13In my visions during the night, I saw among the clouds in heaven someone like the Son of Man. He came to the Ancient One, who has lived for endless years, and was presented to him. He was given power, honor, and a kingdom. People from every province, nation, and language were to serve him. His power is an eternal power that will not be taken away. His kingdom will never be destroyed. 15I, Daniel, was deeply troubled, and my visions frightened me. 16I went to someone who was standing there and asked him to tell me the truth about all this. So he told me what all this meant.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14And there was given him dominion - This also is applied to our Lord Jesus by himself, after his resurrection, Matthew 28:18. His dominion is an everlasting dominion - Christianity shall increase, and prevail to the end of the world. See the parallel passages in the margin.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 14And there was given him dominion - That is, by him who is represented as the “Ancient of days.” The fair interpretation of this is, that he received the dominion from him. This is the uniform representation in the New Testament. Compare Matthew 28:18; John 3:35; 1 Corinthians 15:27. The word dominion here means rule or auhority - such as a prince exercises. He was set over a kingdom as a prince or ruler. And glory - That is the glory or honor appropriate…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-14Verses 9-14 These verses are for the comfort and support of the people of God, in reference to the persecutions that would come upon them. Many New Testament predictions of the judgment to come, have plain allusion to this vision; especially Rev. 20:11,12. The Messiah is here called the Son of man; he was made in the likeness of sinful flesh, and was found in fashion as a man, but he is the Son of God. The great event foretold in this passage, is Christ's…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 14Unlike earthly rulers and kingdoms that eventually end, his rule lasts forever and will never be destroyed. His kingdom is given to the holy people of the Most High (Daniel 7:27), and it fills the earth (2:35, 44–45).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-28This chapter treats of the same subject as the second chapter. But there the four kingdoms, and Messiah's final kingdom, were regarded according to their external political aspect, but here according to the mind of God concerning them, and their moral features. The outward political history had been shown in its general features to the world ruler, whose position fitted him for receiving such a revelation. But God's prophet here receives disclosures as to…Read the comment
