Context of Acts 14:26
24After they had gone through Pisidia, they went to Pamphylia. 25They spoke the message in the city of Perga and went to the city of Attalia. From Attalia they took a boat and headed home to the city of Antioch ⌞in Syria⌟. (In Antioch they had been entrusted to God’s care for the work they had now finished.) 27When they arrived, they called the members of the church together. They reported everything God had done through them, especially that he had given people who were not Jewish the opportunity to believe. 28They stayed for a long time with these disciples.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 26And thence sailed to Antioch - This was Antioch in Syria; and to reach which, by sea, they were obliged to coast a part of the Mediterranean Sea, steering between Cyprus and Cilicia; though they might have gone the whole journey by land. Whence they had been recommended - for the work which they fulfilled - The reader will recollect that it was from this Antioch they had been sent to preach the Gospel to the heathen in Asia Minor: see Acts 13:1, Acts…Read the comment

From whence they had been recommended - Where they had been appointed to this missionary tour by the church, Acts 13:1-4. To the grace of God - His favor and protection had been implored for them in their perilous undertaking. For the work which they fulfilled - This shows conclusively: (1) That they had accomplished fully the work which was originally contemplated. It was strictly a missionary…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 19-28Verses 19-28 See how restless the rage of the Jews was against the gospel of Christ. The people stoned Paul, in a popular tumult. So strong is the bent of the corrupt and carnal heart, that as it is with great difficulty that men are kept back from evil on one side, so it is with great ease they are persuaded to evil on the other side. If Paul would have been Mercury, he might have been worshipped; but if he will be a faithful minister of Christ, he shall…Read the comment

They told how they had shared the good news and helped new believers grow as disciples. They gave credit to God, who had opened the way for Gentiles to believe (see 11:18; 1 Corinthians 16:9; 2 Corinthians 2:12). Similar reports always emphasized God's work through the…Read the comment
