Context of Luke 9:16
14For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, "Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each." 15And they did so, and had them all sit down. And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing over them. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. 17And they all ate and were satisfied. And what was left over was picked up, twelve baskets of broken pieces. 18Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him. And he asked them, "Who do the crowds say that I am?"

Commentaries on Luke 9:16
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 16Then he took the five loaves - A minister of the Gospel, who is employed to feed souls, should imitate this conduct of Christ: He ought to exhort the people to hear with sedate and humble reverence. He should first take the bread of life himself, that he may be strengthened to feed others. He ought frequently to lift his soul to God, in order to draw down the Divine blessing on himself and his hearers. He should break the loaves - divide rightly the word…Read the comment
