Context of Luke 9:16
14(For about five thousand men were there.) Then he told his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” 15They did what he said, and had them all sit down. Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke them. He kept giving them to the disciples to set before the crowd. 17Everyone ate and was filled. They picked up twelve baskets of leftover pieces. 18While he was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 16Then he took the five loaves - A minister of the Gospel, who is employed to feed souls, should imitate this conduct of Christ: He ought to exhort the people to hear with sedate and humble reverence. He should first take the bread of life himself, that he may be strengthened to feed others. He ought frequently to lift his soul to God, in order to draw down the Divine blessing on himself and his hearers. He should break the loaves - divide rightly the word…Read the comment
