Context of Titus 3:12
10If someone teaches a false message that causes trouble, warn him. If you warn him twice and he still does not stop, stay away from him. 11You know that a person like that has chosen not to believe the true message. He knows that he is doing a bad thing, but he continues to do it. I will send either Artemas or Tychicus to you. After one of them has arrived, please come to meet me in Nicopolis. Come as quickly as you can. I have decided that I will stay in Nicopolis during the winter. 13Please help Zenas, the lawyer, and Apollos as much as you can. Make sure that they have everything that they need for their journey. 14Our Christian friends there must learn to do good things. They should supply things to people who need help. That will show that their lives are really useful.

Commentaries on Titus 3:12
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 12When I shall send Artemas - or Tychicus - These were either deacons or presbyters, which the apostle intended to send to Crete, to supply the place of Titus. Who Artemas was we know not; he is not mentioned in any other place in the New Testament. Tychicus was a native of Asia, as we learn from Acts 20:4; (note). Be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis - Nicopolis was a city of Epirus, on the gulf of Ambracia, near to Actium, which Augustus built in…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12When I shall send Artemas unto thee - This person is not elsewhere mentioned in the New Testament, and nothing more is known of him. Or Tychicus - Notes, Acts 20:4. Be diligent - Notes, 2 Timothy 4:9. “To come unto me to Nicopolis.” It was at this place, probably, that this epistle was written. In regard to its situation, see Introduction, Section 4. For I have determined there to winter - Why Paul designed to spend the winter there, or what he purposed…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-15Verses 12-15 Christianity is not a fruitless profession; and its professors must be filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. They must be doing good, as well as keeping away from evil. Let "ours" follow some honest labour and employment, to provide for themselves and their families. Christianity obliges all to seek some honest work and calling, and therein to abide with God. The apostle concludes…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 12Evidently Artemas or Tychicus would be Titus’s replacement on Crete. Since Tychicus was in fact sent to Ephesus (see 2 Timothy 4:12), Artemas might have been the one who went to Crete. Nicopolis: Several cities had this name. This was most likely a major city on the western coast of the Greek peninsula (a piece of land surrounded mostly by water but connected to the mainland on one side). It is possible Paul had worked here before (see Romans 15:19, which…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1212. When I shall send--have sent. Artemas or Tychicus--to supply thy place in Crete. Artemas is said to have been subsequently bishop of Lystra. Tychicus was sent twice by Paul from Rome to Lesser Asia in his first imprisonment (which shows how well qualified he was to become Titus' successor in Crete); Ep 6:21; and in his second, 2Ti 4:12. Tradition makes him subsequently bishop of Chalcedon, in Bithynia. Nicopolis--"the city of victory," called so from…Read the comment
