Context of Titus 3:11
9But stay away from people who argue about silly things. They study long lists of their families' names from years ago. Refuse to quarrel with people like that. Refuse to argue about the rules in God's Law. All those kinds of things have no value and they do not help anyone. 10If someone teaches a false message that causes trouble, warn him. If you warn him twice and he still does not stop, stay away from him. You know that a person like that has chosen not to believe the true message. He knows that he is doing a bad thing, but he continues to do it. 12I will send either Artemas or Tychicus to you. After one of them has arrived, please come to meet me in Nicopolis. Come as quickly as you can. I have decided that I will stay in Nicopolis during the winter. 13Please help Zenas, the lawyer, and Apollos as much as you can. Make sure that they have everything that they need for their journey.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11Is subverted - Is turned out of the way in which he may be saved, and consequently sinneth - enters into that way that leads to destruction. Being condemned of himself - This refers to the Judaizing teacher, who maintained his party and opinions for filthy lucre's sake. He was conscious of his own insincerity; and that he proclaimed not his system from a conscientious love of truth, but from a desire to get his livelihood. Were the Church in all…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11Knowing that he that is such is subverted - Literally, “is turned out;” or, “is changed,” i. e., for the worse. He has gone from the right way, and therefore he should be rejected. And sinneth, being condemned of himself - His own conscience condemns him. He will approve the sentence, for he knows that he is wrong; and his self-condemnation will be punishment sufficient. His own course, in attempting a division or schism in the church, shows him that it…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-11Verses 8-11 When the grace of God towards mankind has been declared, the necessity of good works is pressed. Those who believe in God, must make it their care to maintain good works, to seek opportunities for doing them, being influenced by love and gratitude. Trifling, foolish questions must be avoided, and subtle distinctions and vain inquiries; nor should people be eager after novelties, but love sound doctrine which tends most to edifying. Though we…Read the comment
