Context of Titus 2:5
3Also, tell the older women to live in a good way. Their lives must show that they respect God. They must not say bad things about other people. They must not be drunks. They must teach what is good. 4In this way, they can teach the young women how they should live. As a result, the young women will love their husbands and their children. The young women will control themselves well and be pure in how they live. They will be good housewives who are kind to other people. They will respect their husbands. If they live in a good way like that, nobody will be able to say bad things about God's message. 6As for the young men, tell them also to control themselves wisely in how they live. 7You yourself must always do good things too. In that way, you will show the young men how they should live. When you teach the believers, be honest and serious.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5Keepers at home - . A woman who spends much time in visiting, must neglect her family. The idleness, dirtiness, impudence, and profligacy of the children, will soon show how deeply criminal the mother was in rejecting the apostle's advice. Instead of , keepers of the house, or keepers at home, ACD*EFG, and several of the Itala, have , workers at home; not only staying in the house and keeping the house, but working in the house. A woman may keep the house…Read the comment

A similar injunction is found in the precepts of the Pythagoreans - ̀ ̀ ́ ͂ ̓͂ ̀ ̓́ ́ tan gar gunaika dei oikourein kai endon meneinSee Creuzer‘s Symbolik, iii. 120. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-15Sound teaching was especially urgent on account of the false teachers, who had caused problems within "entire households" (1:11). In 2:1–10, Paul addresses different groups within the household of faith, showing his concern for the public testimony of the church (2:5, 8, 10; see also 1 Tim 5:1–6:2). Paul then elaborates on the coming of Christ (Titus 2:11–14) before giving a direct charge to Titus (2:15).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 55. keepers at home--as "guardians of the house," as the Greek expresses. The oldest manuscripts read, "Workers at home": active in household duties (Pr 7:11; 1Ti 5:13). good--kind, beneficent (Mt 20:15; Ro 5:7; 1Pe 2:18). Not churlish and niggardly, but thrifty as housewives. obedient--rather "submissive," as the Greek is translated; (see on Ep 5:21, 22; Ep 5:24). their own--marking the duty of subjection which they owe them, as being their own husbands…Read the comment
