Context of Revelation 11:19
17They said: ‘We thank you, Lord God, because you have all authority! You are alive now and you have always been alive. You have great power and now you have begun to rule the whole world! 18The nations of the world were very angry. But now it is time for you to be angry with them. Now you will judge all the people who have died. You will give good things to your servants, the prophets, and to all your people. You will bless everyone who respects and obeys you, whether they are important people or not. But you will destroy all those people who destroy the earth. The time has now come for all this to happen.’ Then the door of the temple in heaven became open. Inside it, I saw God's Covenant Box. There was a great storm with bright lightning and the loud noise of thunder. There was an earthquake and strong rain with stones of ice fell from the sky.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 19The temple of God was opened in heaven - The true worship of God was established and performed in the Christian Church; this is the true temple, that at Jerusalem being destroyed. And there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail - These great commotions were intended to introduce the following vision; for the 12th chapter is properly a continuation of the 11th, and should be read in strict connection with it. - Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 19Analysis of the Chapter 11:1912 This portion of the book commences, according to the view presented in the closing remarks on the last chapter, a new series of visions, designed more particularly to represent the internal condition of the church; the rise of antichrist, and the effect of the rise of that formidable power on the internal history of the church to the time of the overthrow of that power, and the triumphant establishment of the kingdom of…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-19Verses 14-19 Before the sounding of the seventh and last trumpet, there is the usual demand of attention. The saints and angels in heaven know the right of our God and Saviour to rule over all the world. But the nations met God's wrath with their own anger. It was a time in which he was beginning to reward his people's faithful services, and sufferings; and their enemies fretted against God, and so increased their guilt, and hastened their destruction. - Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1919. A similar solemn conclusion to that of the seventh seal, Re 8:5, and to that of the seventh vial, Re 16:18. Thus, it appears, the seven seals, the seven trumpets, and the seven vials, are not consecutive, but parallel, and ending in the same consummation. They present the unfolding of God's plans for bringing about the grand end under three different aspects, mutually complementing each other. the temple--the sanctuary or Holy place (Greek, "naos")…Read the comment
