Context of Proverbs 7:19
17I have splashed many kinds of perfume on my bed, like myrrh, aloes and cinnamon. 18So come and join me for the night. We can lie in each other's arms. All night, we can enjoy as much sex as we like. My husband is not at home. He has gone away on a long journey. 20He took a big bag of money with him. He will not come back until later this month.’ 21With those sweet words she deceived the young man. She made him want to be with her.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 19The reference to the husband is probably a blind. The use of the word “goodman” is due to the wish of the English translators to give a colloquial character to this part of their Version. The Hebrew is merely “the man.” A touch of scorn may be noticed in the form of speech: not “my husband,” but simply “the man.”Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-27Verses 6-27 Here is an affecting example of the danger of youthful lusts. It is a history or a parable of the most instructive kind. Then is he as the man who would dance on the edge of a lofty rock, when he has just seen another fall headlong from the same place. The misery of…Read the comment
