Context of Proverbs 26:19
17When strangers are arguing, only a fool joins the argument. It would be better if he took hold of a wild dog's ears! 18A crazy man may shoot sharp arrows to kill people. If a person deceives his friend and then laughs about it, he is as bad as that crazy person. 20Without wood, a fire stops burning. When people do not tell their friends' secrets, quarrels stop. 21But when a fire has wood, it continues to burn. When people love to quarrel, there will always be arguments.

- 2 Peter 2:13They have caused other people to have much trouble. In return, God will cause them to have trouble. They just do things which will make their bodies happy. They have wild parties, even during the day. They eat and drink too much when they eat meals with you. They enjoy all these bad ways to be happy. As a result, people think bad things about you as well. They cause people to be ashamed about you. So they are like dirty marks that spoil something which is clean.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 19Am not I in sport? - How many hearts have been made sad, and how many reputations have been slain, by this kind of sport! "I designed no harm by what I said;" "It was only in jest," etc. Sportive as such persons may think their conduct to be, it is as ruinous as that of the mad man who shoots arrows, throws firebrands, and projects in all directions instruments of death, so that some are wounded, some burnt, and some slain.Read the comment
