Context of Proverbs 18:13
11Rich people think that their money makes them safe, like high, strong walls round a city. 12If you become proud, something will soon destroy you. But if you are humble, you will soon receive honour. Listen carefully before you answer. If you answer too quickly, you will be ashamed like a fool. 14When someone is ill, his spirit will keep him strong. But if his spirit has lost hope, he cannot stay strong. 15Wise people are always learning something new.

Commentaries on Proverbs 18:13
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 13He that answereth a matter - This is a common case; before a man can tell out his story, another will begin his. Before a man has made his response, the other wishes to confute piecemeal, though he has had his own speech already. This is foolishness to them. They are ill-bred. There are many also that give judgment before they hear the whole of the cause, and express an opinion before they hear the state of the case. How absurd, stupid, and foolish!Read the comment
