Context of Matthew 9:20
18While Jesus was saying these things to the people, a leader at the Jewish meeting place came to him. The man went down on his knees in front of Jesus and said to him, ‘My daughter has just died. Come to my house. Put your hand on her and then she will live again.’ 19So Jesus went with the man. His disciples also went with them. There was a sick woman in the crowd. She had been losing blood for 12 years. She came near to Jesus, behind him. She touched the edge of his coat. 21The woman thought, ‘Even if I only touch his coat, I will become well again.’ 22Jesus turned round and he saw the woman. He said to her, ‘Young woman, do not be afraid. You are now well again because you believed in me.’ And immediately the woman became well again.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 20A woman which was diseased with an issue of blood - ̔̓̔ . Mulier sanguinis profluvio laborans. Significatur hoc loco, fluxus muliebris, in Sanis, menstruus; in Hac perpetuus. It would be easy to explain the nature and properties of the disease here mentioned; but, when it is said that prudence forbids it, the intimation itself may be thought sufficiently explanatory of the disorder in question. There are some remarkable circumstances relative to this case…Read the comment

And it is high honour to the greatest rulers to attend on the Lord Jesus; and those who would receive mercy from Christ, must honour him. The variety of methods Christ took in working his miracles, perhaps was because of the different frames and tempers of mind, which those were in who came to him, and which He who searches the heart perfectly knew. But when she touched Jesus, instead of making him unclean, she was made clean. This surprising reversal shows the power to heal, redeem, and make holy (see Matthew 14:36; Mark 3:10). fringe: The tassels at the bottom of a tunic (Matthew 23:5; Numbers 15:37–41) reminded Jews to obey God's law.Read the comment
