Context of Matthew 21:43
41The Jewish leaders said to Jesus, ‘The master will completely destroy those bad people. Then he will give the garden to other farmers to take care of it. Those new farmers will give the master the fruit that he should have at the time of harvest.’ 42Jesus said to them, ‘I am sure that you have read this in the Bible: “The builders refused to use a certain stone. They thought that it had no value. But now that stone has become the most important stone at the corner of the building. The Lord God did this. And we can see that he did something great.” I tell you this: Because you do not believe in me, God will take his kingdom away from you. He will give it to people who show that they obey him. 44When a person falls onto that stone, it will break his body into pieces. When that stone falls on top of someone, it will destroy him completely.’ 45The leaders of the priests and the Pharisees heard what Jesus said in his stories. They knew that he was speaking against them.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 43Therefore say I - Thus showing them, that to them alone the parable belonged. The kingdom of God shall be taken from you - the Gospel shall be taken from you, and given to the Gentiles, who will receive it, and bring forth fruit to the glory of God. Bringing forth the fruits - As in Matthew 21:34; an allusion is made to paying the landlord in kind, so here the Gentiles are represented as paying God thus. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 33-46Verses 33-46 This parable plainly sets forth the sin and ruin of the Jewish nation; and what is spoken to convict them, is spoken to caution all that enjoy the privileges of the outward church. As men treat God's people, they would treat Christ himself, if he were with them. How can we, if faithful to his cause, expect a favourable reception from a wicked world, or from ungodly professors of Christianity! And let us ask ourselves, whether we who have the…Read the comment

The Christian community is a nation that will produce the proper "fruit" or right results. This means a life of trust and obedience that shows the start of God's kingdom (see Matthew 3:8; 7:15–20; 12:33; 13:8, 26).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 4343. Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God--God's visible Kingdom, or Church, upon earth, which up to this time stood in the seed of Abraham. shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof--that is, the great evangelical community of the faithful, which, after the extrusion of the Jewish nation, would consist chiefly of Gentiles, until "all Israel should be saved" (Ro 11:25, 26).
