Context of Matthew 10:2
1One day, Jesus asked his 12 disciples to come to him. He gave them authority over bad spirits so that they could send the spirits out of people. They could also make sick people well again from every kind of illness. These are the names of the 12 apostles: The first apostle is Simon, who was also called Peter. Then Simon's brother, who was called Andrew. Also James and his brother John, who were Zebedee's sons. 3There were Philip and Bartholomew. There were Thomas and Matthew. (Matthew's job was to take taxes from people.) And James who was the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus. 4There was also Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who later gave Jesus to his enemies.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2Apostles - This is the first place where the word is used. Ϛ, an apostle, comes from Ϛ, I send a message. The word was anciently used to signify a person commissioned by a king to negotiate any affair between him and any other power or people. Hence Ϛ and , apostles and heralds, are of the same import in Herodotus. See the remarks at the end of chap. 3. It is worthy of notice, that those who were Christ's apostles were first his disciples; to intimate…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2Now the names of the twelve apostles - The account of their being called is more fully given in Mark 3:13-18, and Luke 6:12-19. They agree in saying it was done on a mountain; and, according to Luke, it was done before the sermon on the mount was delivered, perhaps on the same mountain, near Capernaum. Luke adds that the night previous had been spent “in prayer” to God. See the…Read the comment

And as in the Acts (Ac 1:13) we have a list of the Eleven who met daily in the upper room with the other disciples after their Master's ascension until the day of…Read the comment
