Context of Mark 9:30
28Jesus went into a house and the disciples were alone with him. Then they asked him, ‘Why could we not cause the bad spirit to leave the boy?’ 29Jesus said to them, ‘You must pray. This kind of spirit will not leave a person unless you pray.’ Jesus and his disciples left that place. They passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where he was. 31That was because he was teaching his disciples. He told them, ‘Soon, they will give the Son of Man to powerful people. They will take him away and they will kill him. But three days after that, he will become alive again.’ 32The disciples did not understand what Jesus had said. But they were afraid to ask him.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 30-40Verses 30-40 The time of Christ's suffering drew nigh. Had he been delivered into the hands of devils, and they had done this, it had not been so strange; but that men should thus shamefully treat the Son of man, who came to redeem and save them, is wonderful. Still observe that when Christ spake of his death, he always spake of his resurrection, which took the reproach of it from himself, and should have taken the grief of it from his disciples. Many…Read the comment

And they departed thence, and passed--were passing along. through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it--By comparing Mt 17:22, 23 and Lu 9:43, 44 with this, we gather, that as our Lord's reason for going through Galilee more privately than usual on this occasion was to reiterate to them the announcement which had so shocked them at the first mention of it, and thus familiarize them with it by little and little, so this was His reason…Read the comment
