Context of Mark 9:31
29Jesus said to them, ‘You must pray. This kind of spirit will not leave a person unless you pray.’ 30Jesus and his disciples left that place. They passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where he was. That was because he was teaching his disciples. He told them, ‘Soon, they will give the Son of Man to powerful people. They will take him away and they will kill him. But three days after that, he will become alive again.’ 32The disciples did not understand what Jesus had said. But they were afraid to ask him. 33Jesus and his disciples arrived at Capernaum. When they were in the house, Jesus asked them, ‘What were you arguing about on the way?’

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 30-40Verses 30-40 The time of Christ's suffering drew nigh. Had he been delivered into the hands of devils, and they had done this, it had not been so strange; but that men should thus shamefully treat the Son of man, who came to redeem and save them, is wonderful.
