Context of Mark 8:25
23Jesus took the blind man's hand and he led the man out of the village. Jesus put water from his own mouth on the man's eyes. And he put his hands on the man. ‘Can you see anything?’ Jesus asked. 24The man looked up. He said, ‘I can see people. But they look like trees that are walking about.’ So Jesus put his hands on the man's eyes again. The man looked carefully and then his eyes were completely well. Now he could see everything clearly. 26Jesus told the man that he must go back to his home. Jesus said, ‘Do not even go into the village.’ 27Then Jesus and his disciples went to visit some villages. They were near to the town of Caesarea Philippi. On the way, Jesus asked his disciples, ‘When people talk about me, who do they say that I am?’

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 25And saw every man clearly - But instead of ̔, all men, several excellent MSS., and the principal versions, have ̔, all things, every object; for the view he had of them before was indistinct and confused. Our Lord could have restored this man to sight in a moment; but he chose to do it in the way mentioned in the text, to show that he is sovereign of his own graces; and to point out that, however insignificant means may appear in themselves, they are…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 25Every man clearly - Could see their form and features. His sight was completely restored. Though our Lord did not by this, probably, “intend” to teach any lesson in regard to the way in which the mind of a sinner is enlightened, yet it affords a striking illustration of it. Sinners are by nature blind, 2 Corinthians 4:4; 1 John 2:11; John 9:39. The effect of religion, or of the influence of the Holy Spirit, is to open the eyes, to show the sinner his…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-26Verses 22-26 Here is a blind man brought to Christ by his friends. Therein appeared the faith of those that brought him. If those who are spiritually blind, do not pray for themselves, yet their friends and relations should pray for them, that Christ would be pleased to touch them. The cure was wrought gradually, which was not usual in our Lord's miracles. Christ showed in what method those commonly are healed by his grace, who by nature are spiritually…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 24-25The healing was not immediate. At first, the man saw imperfectly. After Jesus touched him a second time, he fully healed the man. Who is this man who calms the sea and heals the blind? Peter reveals this in the next account. He is the Christ (8:29).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2525. After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up; and he was restored, and saw every man clearly--Perhaps the one operation perfectly restored the eyes, while the other imparted immediately the faculty of using them. It is the only recorded example of a progressive cure, and it certainly illustrates similar methods in the spiritual kingdom. Of the four recorded cases of sight restored, all the patients save one either came or were…Read the comment
