Context of Mark 10:9
7That is the reason that a man leaves his father and his mother. Then God joins him and his wife together. 8The man and the woman become like one body. They are not two separate people any longer. They have come together as one person. God has put them together to be husband and wife. So nobody should cause them to be separate.’ 10When Jesus went into the house, the disciples asked him about these things again. 11So Jesus said to them, ‘A man must not send his wife away and then marry another woman. If he does that, he has not been faithful to his wife. It is the same as if he had sex with another man's wife.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5-9God allowed divorce because people’s hearts were hard, meaning they would not obey God. But the passages that Jesus quotes from the law of Moses show God’s true plan for marriage (Genesis 1:27; 2:23–24; see also Malachi 2:16). These passages show that God values marriage. In marriage, a man and woman form a new union, and the two become one. People should not go against God’s will by separating what God has joined together.Read the comment
