Context of Mark 10:7
5Jesus said to them, ‘You did not want to obey God. That is why Moses made this rule for you. 6But at the start, when God made the world, he made people male and female. That is the reason that a man leaves his father and his mother. Then God joins him and his wife together. 8The man and the woman become like one body. They are not two separate people any longer. They have come together as one person. 9God has put them together to be husband and wife. So nobody should cause them to be separate.’

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 1-12Verses 1-12 See this question about divorce explained in the notes at Matthew 19:1-12. Mark 10:12 And if a woman shall put away her husband - It would seem, from this, that a woman, among the Jews, had the power of separating herself from her husband, yet this right is not given her by the law of Moses. There is not, however, any positive evidence that females often claimed or exercised this right. Cases had occurred, indeed, in which it had been done…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5-9God allowed divorce because people’s hearts were hard, meaning they would not obey God. But the passages that Jesus quotes from the law of Moses show God’s true plan for marriage (Genesis 1:27; 2:23–24; see also Malachi 2:16). These passages show that God values marriage. In marriage, a man and woman form a new union, and the two become one. People should not go against God’s will by separating what God has joined together.Read the comment
