Context of Ezekiel 35:3
1The Lord gave this message to me: 2‘Son of man, look towards Mount Seir. Then speak my message to warn it. Say to it, “This is what the Almighty Lord says: Listen! I am your enemy, Mount Seir. I will attack you, so that you become like a desert. 4I will destroy your towns. They will become heaps of stones where nobody lives. Then you will know that I am the Lord. 5You have always hated Israel's people. Because of that, you did not help them when their enemy attacked them and killed them. They were in great trouble when I punished them for their sins.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-15This message of judgment is directed to Edom, Israel’s neighbor to the southeast. It is also called Mount Seir, the main mountain region of Edom. Edom stands as a symbol of all Israel’s enemies. For example, Edom rejoiced when Israel fell (Ezekiel 36:2; see also 25:12–14). When Babylon destroyed Judah, Edom may have thought it had a chance to grow stronger. However, the Lord said that its success would not last long.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 33. most desolate--literally, "desolation and desolateness" (Jr 49:17, &c.). It is only in their national character of foes to God's people, that the Edomites are to be utterly destroyed. A remnant of Edom, as of the other heathen, is to be "called by the name of God" (Am 9:12).Read the comment
