Context of Ephesians 3:11
9I help everyone to know how God makes his purpose happen. God himself created all things, and he has hidden this secret during past times. 10But now God wants the people of his church to show everyone how wise he is in every way. He wants the spiritual rulers and everything that has authority in the heavens to know this. This had always been God's purpose, from the beginning of all things. And it was our Lord Christ Jesus who made it happen. 12Because we are united with Christ, we can come near to God. We are not afraid to do that. We can be sure that God will accept us, because we trust in Christ. 13So do not become weak or afraid. I am now suffering so that I can help you. So you should be strong, so that God will bless you.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11According to the eternal purpose - · According to the purpose concerning the periods. This seems to refer to the complete round of the Jewish system, and to that of the Gospel. I have often observed, that though the proper grammatical meaning of the word is ever-during or endless duration, yet it is often applied to those systems, periods, governments, etc., which have a complete duration, taking in the whole of them, from their commencement to their…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11According to the eternal purpose - see the note, Ephesians 1:4. Literally, “the purpose of ages,” or of eternity. Locke, Chandler, and Whitby render this, “according to that disposition or arrangement of the ages which he made in Jesus Christ, or through him.” The object of such an interpretation seems to be to avoid the doctrine that God had a purpose or plan in the salvation of people, and hence such expositors suppose it refers to the arrangement of…Read the comment

Though many are not enriched with these riches; yet how great a favour to have them preached among us, and to have an offer of them! And if we are not enriched with them it is our own fault.
