Context of Ephesians 1:19
17God is very great! He is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray that his Holy Spirit will make you wise. I pray that his Holy Spirit will help you to understand what God is like. Then you will know God better and better. 18I pray that God will bring light into your minds. Then you will understand about the many good things that he has prepared for you. You know that you will receive those things because he has chosen you to be his people. God has prepared very valuable things for you in heaven. You will also know how very powerful God is. He uses that power to help us now, as we trust in Christ. God's power is greater than anything we could ever know. 20He used that power to raise Christ, so that he became alive again after his death. Then he gave Christ a place to sit at his right side in heaven. 21There, Christ rules over every other ruler and leader. He rules over everything else that has authority. He is greater than any power which people respect. That is true for the rulers of this world now, and also the rulers of the world that will come.

Commentaries on Ephesians 1:19
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 19The exceeding greatness of his power - As the apostle is here speaking of the glorious state of believers after death, the exceeding greatness of his power, or that power which surpasses all difficulties, being itself omnipotent, is to be understood of that might which is to be exerted in raising the body at the last day; as it will require the same power or energy which he wrought in Christ, when he raised his body from the grave, to raise up the bodies…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 19And what is the exceeding greatness of his power - On the language used here, compare the notes at 2 Corinthians 4:17. There is much emphasis and energy of expression here, as if the apostle were laboring under the greatness of his theme, and wanted words to express the magnitude of his conception. This is the “third” thing which he was particularly desirous they should know - that they should be fully acquainted with the “power” of God in the salvation…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 15-23Verses 15-23 God has laid up spiritual blessings for us in his Son the Lord Jesus; but requires us to draw them out and fetch them in by prayer. Even the best Christians need to be prayed for: and while we hear of the welfare of Christian friends, we should pray for them. Even true believers greatly want heavenly wisdom. Are not the best of us unwilling to come under God's yoke, though there is no other way to find rest for the soul? Do we not for a…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 19-20God's power for those who believe in him is the power of his Spirit working in and through his people, because they are connected to the resurrected Christ (see Romans 6:4–14; Colossians 2:12). Paul wanted to experience the power of Christ's resurrection in his own life (Philippians 3:10). In biblical times, the place of honor was always at a person's right hand (Psalm 110:1; Acts 7:56).Read the comment
