Context of Acts 20:26
24But even if people kill me, this is not important to me. The Lord Jesus gave me some work to do. It is important that I finish his work. I must tell people the good news about how kind and good God is. 25I have lived among you and I have taught you all about the kingdom of God. But now I know that none of you will see me again. So I want to say this clearly to you today. If any of you have not believed in Jesus, it is not because of me. 27I have told you everything that God wants you to know. 28You who are leaders should be careful about how you live. Also take care of the group of people that the Holy Spirit has chosen you to lead. Keep them safe like shepherds who take care of their sheep. All the believers belong to God because his Son, Jesus, died for them. He bought them with his blood which poured out on the cross.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 26Wherefore - In view of the past, of my ministry and labors among you, I appeal to your own selves to testify that I have been faithful. I take you to record - Greek: I call you to witness. If any of you are lost; if you prove unfaithful to God, I appeal to yourselves that the fault is not mine. It is well when a minister can make this appeal, and call his hearers to bear testimony to his own faithfulness. Ministers who preach the gospel with fidelity may…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 17-27Verses 17-27 The elders knew that Paul was no designing, self-seeking man. He was a powerful preacher; he preached the gospel as a testimony to them if they received it; but as a testimony against them if they rejected it. He was a profitable preacher; one that aimed to…Read the comment
