Context of 2 Corinthians 8:1
My Christian friends, let me tell you about the believers in the churches in Macedonia. God has been very kind to them. 2They have had bad troubles, but they continued to be very happy. As a result, they gave a lot of money to other people. They themselves are very poor, but they still helped other people a lot. 3Let me tell you this. They gave as much money as they were able to give. Then they gave even more than that! They gave it because they wanted to.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 1Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit - In all our dignified version very few ill-constructed sentences can be found; however here is one, and the worst in the book. We do you to wit is in the original ̔, we make known unto you. This is plain and intelligible, the other is not so; and the form is now obsolete. The grace of God bestowed - Dr. Whitby has made it fully evident that the signifies the charitable contribution made by the Churches in Macedonia…Read the comment
