Context of 1 Peter 3:10
8Now I want to say this to you before I finish my letter. All of you should agree with each other in what you think. You should try to understand how other people are feeling. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be kind to each other. Do not think that you are more important than other people. 9If people do bad things to you, do not do anything bad to them in return. If people insult you, do not insult them in return. Instead, pray that God will bless those people. That is what God wants you to do. Then you will receive the gift of God's blessing. The Bible says this: ‘Do you want to enjoy your life? Do you want to be happy? Then you must be careful not to say evil things. Do not tell any lies. 11Stop doing evil things. Instead, do things that are good. Try to be friends with people. Help people to live in peace with each other. 12Remember that the Lord God sees what everyone does. He takes care of people who do what is right. When they pray, he listens to them. But the Lord God turns against people who do evil things.’

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 10For he that will love life - This is a quotation from Psalm 34:12-16, as it stands in the Septuagint; only the aorist of the imperative is changed from the second into the third person, etc. He who wishes to live long and prosperously, must act as he is here directed. He must refrain from evil-speaking, lying, and slandering. He must avoid flattery and fair speeches, which cover hypocritical or wicked intentions. He must avoid evil, keep going away , from…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 10For he that will love life - Greek, “He willing, ( ́ thelōnor that wills to love life.” It implies that there is some positive desire to live; some active wish that life should be prolonged. This whole passage 1 Peter 3:10-12 is taken, with some slight variations, from Psalm 34:12-16. In the Psalm this expression is, “What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?” The sense is substantially the same. It is implied here…Read the comment

He must forsake and keep far from evil actions, do all the good he can, and seek peace with all men. For God, all-wise and every where present, watches over the…Read the comment
