Context of Galatians 5:4
2Behold, I, Paul, say to you, that if ye are circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3And I witness again to every man [who is] circumcised, that he is debtor to do the whole law. Ye are deprived of all profit from the Christ as separated [from him], as many as are justified by law; ye have fallen from grace. 5For we, by [the] Spirit, on the principle of faith, await the hope of righteousness. 6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision has any force, nor uncircumcision; but faith working through love.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4Christ is become of no effect unto you - You will derive no advantage from Christ. His work in regard to you is needless and vain. If you can be justified in any other way than by him, then of course you do not need him, and your adoption of the other mode is in fact a renunciation of him. Tyndale renders this: “Ye are gone quite from Christ.” The word here used ( ́ katargeō), means properly, to render inactive, idle, useless; to do away, to put an end…Read the comment
