Context of Mark 1:12
10As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, He saw the heavens breaking open and the Spirit descending on Him like a dove. 11And a voice came from heaven: “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” At once the Spirit drove Jesus into the wilderness, 13and He was there for forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and the angels ministered to Him. 14After the arrest of John, Jesus went into Galilee and proclaimed the gospel of God.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-13Verses 9-13 Christ's baptism was his first public appearance, after he had long lived unknown. How much hidden worth is there, which in this world is not known! But sooner or later it shall be known, as Christ was. He took upon himself the likeness of sinful flesh; and thus, for our sakes, he sanctified himself, that we also might be sanctified, and be baptized with him, Joh 17:19. See how honourably God owned him, when he submitted to John's baptism. He…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 12-13the Spirit drove Jesus (compare Matthew 4:1; Luke 4:1): he Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness. From the beginning of his ministry, Jesus defeated Satan and resisted temptation. In Scripture, the wilderness often has a sense of danger and evil because of Satan and wild animals (Isaiah…Read the comment
