Context of Mark 13:27
25and the stars will be falling from the sky, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken. 26Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory [in royal majesty and splendor]. And then He will send out the angels, and will gather together His elect [those He has chosen for Himself] from the four winds, from the farthest end of the earth to the farthest end of heaven. 28“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: as soon as its branch becomes tender and it puts out its leaves, you recognize that summer is near. 29Even so, you too, when you see these things happening, know [for certain] that He is near, right at the door.

Commentaries on Mark 13:27
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 24-27Verses 24-27 The disciples had confounded the destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the world. This mistake Christ set right, and showed that the day of Christ's coming, and the day of judgment, shall be after that tribulation. Here he foretells the final dissolution of the present frame and fabric of the world. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 27When the Son of Man comes, he will gather his chosen people. These are those who believe in him and follow him. His chosen people come from all over the world and from the farthest parts of the earth and heaven (see Zechariah 2:6; see Deuteronomy 13:7; 30:4; Isaiah 42:10; 62:11). This hope is expressed frequently in the Old Testament (for example, Psalm 107:2–3; Isaiah 11:11–16; 27:12–13; 43:5–13; 49:12; 60:1–9; Jeremiah 31:10). For Mark’s audience, this…Read the comment
