Context of Mark 13:27
25and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. 28"From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates.

Commentaries on Mark 13:27
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 24-27Verses 24-27 The disciples had confounded the destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the world. This mistake Christ set right, and showed that the day of Christ's coming, and the day of judgment, shall be after that tribulation. Here he foretells the final dissolution of the present frame and fabric of the world. His chosen people come from all over the world and from the farthest parts of the earth and heaven (see Zechariah 2:6; see Deuteronomy 13:7; 30:4; Isaiah 42:10; 62:11). This hope is expressed frequently in the Old Testament (for example, Psalm 107:2–3; Isaiah 11:11–16; 27:12–13; 43:5–13; 49:12; 60:1–9; Jeremiah 31:10). For Mark’s audience, this…Read the comment
