Context of Luke 19:14
12So He said, “A nobleman went to a distant country to obtain for himself a kingdom, and [then] to return. 13So he called ten of his servants, and gave them ten minas [one apiece, each equal to about a hundred days’ wages] and said to them, ‘Do business [with this] until I return.’ But his citizens [the residents of his new kingdom] hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to be a king over us.’ 15When he returned, after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these servants, to whom he had given the money, be called to him, that he might find out what business they had done. 16The first one came before him and said, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten more minas.’

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14His citizens - Or countrymen - the Jewish people, who professed to be subjects of the kingdom of God. Hated him - Despised him for the meanness of his birth, his crucifixion to the world, and for the holiness of his doctrine. The manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal, 1Co 12:7. And as every one has received the gift, so let him minister the same, 1Pe 4:10. The account required, resembles that in the parable of the talents; and the punishment of…Read the comment
