Context of 2 Timothy 2:25
23But have nothing to do with foolish and ignorant speculations [useless disputes over unedifying, stupid controversies], since you know that they produce strife and give birth to quarrels. 24The servant of the Lord must not participate in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone [even-tempered, preserving peace, and he must be], skilled in teaching, patient and tolerant when wronged. He must correct those who are in opposition with courtesy and gentleness in the hope that God may grant that they will repent and be led to the knowledge of the truth [accurately understanding and welcoming it], 26and that they may come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 25Those that oppose - . This seems to refer to those who opposed the apostle's authority; and hence the propriety of the allusion to the rebellion of Korah and his company. See observations at the end of the chapter. If God peradventure - He was to use every means which he had reason to believe God might bless; and the apostle intimates that, bad as they were, they were not out of the reach of God's mercy.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves - That is, those who embrace error, and array themselves against the truth. Our business with…Read the comment
