Context of Mark 5:37
35While Yeshua was still speaking, messengers come from the house of the synagogue leader, saying, “Your daughter is dead. Why do you still trouble the Teacher?” 36But ignoring what they said, Yeshua tells the synagogue leader, “Do not be afraid; only believe.” He did not let anyone follow Him except Peter, Jacob, and John, the brother of Jacob. 38They come to the house of the synagogue leader. He sees a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. 39After entering, He said to them, “Why make such a fuss and weep? The child didn’t die, but is sleeping.”

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 35-43Verses 35-43 We may suppose Jairus hesitating whether he should ask Christ to go on or not, when told that his daughter was dead. But have we not as much occasion for the grace of God, and the comfort of his Spirit, for the prayers of our ministers and Christian friends, when death is in the house, as when sickness is there? Faith is the only remedy against grief and fear at such a time. Believe the resurrection, then fear not. He raised the dead child to…Read the comment
