Context of Acts 8:4
2Some devout men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him. 3But Saul was destroying Messiah’s community, entering house after house; and dragging off men and women, he was throwing them into prison. Now those who had been scattered went around proclaiming the Word. 5Philip went down to the main city of Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah to them. 6The crowds were paying close attention to what Philip was saying—as they both heard and saw the signs that he was doing.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 4They that were scattered - went every where preaching - Thus the very means devised by Satan to destroy the Church became the very instruments of its diffusion and establishment. - Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 44. they that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching--Though solemnly enjoined to do this (Lu 24:47; Ac 1:8), they would probably have lingered at Jerusalem, but for this besom of persecution which swept them out. How often has the rage of Christ's enemies thus "turned out rather unto the furtherance of the Gospel" (see Php 1:12, 13).Read the comment
