Context of Acts 3:4
2A man lame from birth was being carried—every day they used to put him at the Temple gate called Beautiful, so he could beg for tzadakah from those entering the Temple. 3When he saw Peter and John about to go into the Temple, he began asking to receive tzadakah. But Peter, along with John, looked straight at him and said, “Look at us!” 5So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. 6But Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give to you—in the name of Yeshua ha-Mashiach ha-Natzrati, get up and walk!”

Commentaries on Acts 3:4
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 4Look on us - He wished to excite and engage his attention that he might see what was done to produce his miraculous cure, and, it is likely, took this occasion to direct his faith to Jesus Christ. See note on Acts 3:16; (note). Peter and John probably felt themselves suddenly drawn by the Holy Spirit to pronounce the healing name in behalf of this poor man.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4Fastening his eyes - The word used here denotes “to look intently, or with fixed attention.” It is one of the special words which Luke uses (Luke 4:20; Luke 22:56; Acts 1:10; Acts 3:12; Acts 6:15; Acts 7:55; Acts 10:4; etc.) 12 times in all. It is used by no other writer in the New Testament, except twice by Paul, 2 Corinthians 3:7, 2 Corinthians 3:13. Look on us - All this Was done to fix the attention. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-11Jesus promised that his disciples would do greater works than he did (John 14:12; see Mark 16:20). This promise came true through the signs, wonders, and mighty works of the apostles (Acts 2:43; 5:12; 8:4–8). The apostle Peter showed the power to heal in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth (3:6, 16). The healing was immediate and evident (3:8). It led the man to praise God (3:8–9; compare 2:47; 16:25; Luke 2:20; 17:15–18; 18:43; 19:37; 24:53). This event…Read the comment
