But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium. 52And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Ghost.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 51They shook off the dust of their feet against them - This was a very significant rite; by it, they in effect said: Ye are worse than the heathen: even your very land is accursed for your opposition to God, and we dare not permit even its dust to cleave to the soles of our feet; and we shake it off, in departing from your country, according to our Lord's command, ( Matthew 10:14;), for a testimony against you, that we offered you salvation, but ye rejected…Read the comment

It is now called Konieh, and is the capital of Caramania. “Konieh extends to the east and south over the plain far beyond the walls, which are about two miles in circumference Mountains covered with snow rise on every side, excepting toward the east, where a plain, as flat as the desert of Arabia, extends far beyond the reach of the…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 42-52Verses 42-52 The Jews opposed the doctrine the apostles preached; and when they could find no objection, they blasphemed Christ and his gospel. Commonly those who begin with contradicting, end with blaspheming. But when adversaries of Christ's cause are daring, its advocates should be the bolder. And while many judge themselves unworthy of eternal life, others, who appear less likely, desire to hear more of the glad tidings of salvation. This is according…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 50-51Jewish opposition once again forced Paul and Barnabas out of their district. They shook the dust off their feet as a sign of rejection, as Jesus had taught his disciples (see Matthew 10:14–15; Mark 6:11–12; Luke 9:5–6; 10:10–11). That place was then treated as pagan (not worshiping the true God). Paul and Barnabas left that place in order to reach other people who might be more open to the message of new life in Christ.Read the comment
