Context of 1 Chronicles 29:20
18O Yhwh God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee: 19And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision. And David said to all the congregation, Now bless Yhwh your God. And all the congregation blessed Yhwh God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped Yhwh, and the king. 21And they sacrificed sacrifices unto Yhwh, and offered burnt offerings unto Yhwh, on the morrow after that day, even a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel: 22And did eat and drink before Yhwh on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him unto Yhwh to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 20Worshipped the Lord, and the king - The same outward signs of reverence were accorded by the customs of the Jews (as of the Oriental nations generally) to God and to their monarchs (see 1 Kings 1:31). But the application of the terms to both in the same passage, which occurs nowhere in Scripture but here, is thought to indicate a time when a long servitude under despotic lords had orientalized men‘s mode of speech.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 20-25Verses 20-25 This great assembly joined with David in adoring God. Whoever is the mouth of the congregation, those only have the benefit who join him, not by bowing down the head, so much as by lifting up the soul. Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord. Solomon's kingdom typified the kingdom of the Messiah, whose throne is the throne of the Lord.Read the comment
