Context of Luke 6:19
17When they came down from the mountain, the disciples stood with Jesus on a large, level area, surrounded by many of his followers and by the crowds. There were people from all over Judea and from Jerusalem and from as far north as the seacoasts of Tyre and Sidon. 18They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those troubled by evil spirits were healed. Everyone tried to touch him, because healing power went out from him, and he healed everyone. 20Then Jesus turned to his disciples and said, “God blesses you who are poor, for the Kingdom of God is yours. 21God blesses you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. God blesses you who weep now, for in due time you will laugh.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-19Verses 12-19 We often think one half hour a great deal to spend in meditation and secret prayer, but Christ was whole nights engaged in these duties. In serving God, our great care should be not to lose time, but to make the end of one good duty the beginning of another. The twelve apostles are here named; never were men so privileged, yet one of them had a devil, and proved a traitor. Those who have not faithful preaching near them, had better travel far…Read the comment
