28The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone, 29“Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?” So the people came streaming from the village to see him. 31Meanwhile, the disciples were urging Jesus, “Rabbi, eat something.” 32But Jesus replied, “I have a kind of food you know nothing about.”

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 27-42Verses 27-42 The disciples wondered that Christ talked thus with a Samaritan. Yet they knew it was for some good reason, and for some good end. Thus when particular difficulties occur in the word and providence of God, it is good to satisfy ourselves that all is well that Jesus Christ says and does. Two things affected the woman. The extent of his knowledge. Christ knows all the thoughts, words, and actions, of all the children of men. And the power of…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 27-30The woman was not fully certain about who Jesus was (4:29). She asked the people of her village, “Could this be the Christ?” Her words show that she was still thinking and learning. Even so, she ran back to the village and told others about him. She invited them to come and see for themselves. Telling others about Jesus is a sign of discipleship. Earlier in this Gospel, others also invited people to “come and see”(see 1:39, 46).Read the comment
