Hosea 9:10
10The Lord says, “O Israel, when I first found you, it was like finding fresh grapes in the desert. When I saw your ancestors, it was like seeing the first ripe figs of the season. But then they deserted me for Baal-peor, giving themselves to that shameful idol. Soon they became vile, as vile as the god they worshiped.

Context of Hosea 9:10
8The prophet is a watchman over Israel for my God, yet traps are laid for him wherever he goes. He faces hostility even in the house of God. 9The things my people do are as depraved as what they did in Gibeah long ago. God will not forget. He will surely punish them for their sins. The Lord says, “O Israel, when I first found you, it was like finding fresh grapes in the desert. When I saw your ancestors, it was like seeing the first ripe figs of the season. But then they deserted me for Baal-peor, giving themselves to that shameful idol. Soon they became vile, as vile as the god they worshiped. 11The glory of Israel will fly away like a bird, for your children will not be born or grow in the womb or even be conceived. 12Even if you do have children who grow up, I will take them from you. It will be a terrible day when I turn away and leave you alone.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 10I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness - God is not said to find anything, as though “He” had lost it, or knew not where it was, or came suddenly upon it, not expecting it. “They” were lost, as relates to Him, when they were found by Him. As our Lord says of the returned prodigal, “This my son was lost and is found” Luke 15:32. He “found” them and made them pleasant in His own sight, “as grapes which a man finds unexpectedly, in “a great terrible…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-10Verses 7-10 Time had been when the spiritual watchmen of Israel were with the Lord, but now they were like the snare of a fowler to entangle persons to their ruin. The people were become as corrupt as those of Gibeah, Judg. 19; and their crimes should be visited in like manner. At first God had found Israel pleasing to Him, as grapes to the traveller in the wilderness. He saw them with pleasure as the first ripe figs. This shows the delight God took in…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 10I found Israel: Hosea, like Ezekiel (Ezekiel 16), describes the Lord finding and adopting pure, innocent Israel in the desert. But Israel soon left God for idols at Baal-peor (Numbers 25:1–4). Worshiping idols made the Israelites detestable. This strong word can also mean abomination (Deuteronomy 29:17; Jeremiah 7:30). They inevitably became like what they worshiped.Read the comment
