Context of Mark 6:39
37But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said, “Should we go and buy bread for two hundred silver coins and give it to them to eat?” 38He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” When they found out, they said, “Five – and two fish.” Then he directed them all to sit down in groups on the green grass. 40So they reclined in groups of hundreds and fifties. 41He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. He gave them to his disciples to serve the people, and he divided the two fish among them all.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 30-44Verses 30-44 Let not ministers do any thing or teach any thing, but what they are willing should be told to their Lord. The people sought the spiritual food of Christ's word, and then he took care that they should not want bodily food. If Christ and his disciples put up with mean things, surely…Read the comment

The feeding of the 4,000 is different enough to show these were two separate events (see Mark 8:1–10).Read the comment
