Context of John 7:36
34You will look for me but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come.” 35Then the Jewish leaders said to one another, “Where is he going to go that we cannot find him? He is not going to go to the Jewish people dispersed among the Greeks and teach the Greeks, is he? What did he mean by saying, ‘You will look for me but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come’?” 37On the last day of the feast, the greatest day, Jesus stood up and shouted out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me, and 38let the one who believes in me drink. Just as the scripture says, ‘From within him will flow rivers of living water.’”

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 31-36Verses 31-36 The discourses of Jesus convinced many that he was the Messiah; but they had not courage to own it. It is comfort to those who are in the world, but not of it, and therefore are hated by it and weary of it, that they shall not be in it always, that they shall not be in it long. Our days being evil, it is well they are few. The days of life and of grace do not last long; and sinners, when in misery, will be glad of the help they now despise…Read the comment

After Jesus returned to the Father, the Jewish leaders would no longer be able to find him. and where I am, you cannot come: These Pharisees, still in spiritual darkness, could not enter heaven. So Jesus would…Read the comment
