Context of Matthew 22:24
22They were surprised to hear this. Then they left him alone and went away. 23On that day some Sadducees, who say that people will never come back to life, came to Jesus. They asked him, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies childless, his brother should marry his widow and have children for his brother.’ 25There were seven brothers among us. The first married and died. Since he had no children, he left his widow to his brother. 26The second brother also died, as well as the third, and the rest of the seven brothers.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 24Raise up seed unto his brother - This law is mentioned Deuteronomy 25:5. The meaning of the expression is, that the children produced by this marriage should be reckoned in the genealogy of the deceased brother, and enjoy his estates. The word seed should be always translated children or posterity. There is a law precisely similar to this among the Hindoos.Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 23-33Verses 23-33 The doctrines of Christ displeased the infidel Sadducees, as well as the Pharisees and Herodians. He carried the great truths of the resurrection and a future state, further than they had yet been reveled. Having thus silenced them, our Lord proceeded to show the truth of the…Read the comment
